Turning 40 is a big deal, but Drake decided to make it a full-on event. And apparently, all he wanted for his birthday was the Backstreet Boys!
The rapper celebrated his milestone birthday Friday night at New York City’s Casa Cipriani, with more than 400 guests in attendance. But the biggest moment of the night came when the Backstreet Boys showed up for a surprise performance of their 1999 hit “I Want It That Way.” And Drake didn’t just watch from the crowd. He jumped onstage and sang along with Nick Carter, AJ McLean, Kevin Richardson, Brian Littrell and Howie Dorough!
And here’s the fun part: this wasn’t a random celebrity crossover. Drake has a genuine soft spot for the song. Back in 2022, he joined the group onstage during their Toronto tour stop and shared that “I Want It That Way” played a memorable role in his bar mitzvah. He even called it one of the greatest songs of all time. Clearly, the love for BSB is still going strong four years later!
Of course, the Backstreet Boys weren’t the only big moment of the night. Guests reportedly received designer gifts from Chanel and Hermès, and a game-show-style competition offered cash prizes ranging from thousands of dollars all the way up to $1 million. Because apparently, regular birthday cake and a few balloons just weren’t going to cut it.
Drake also took a moment to thank the people in the room, explaining that the night wasn’t about a new album, tour or business venture. It was about being alive and celebrating life with the people who matter to him.
Honestly, getting the Backstreet Boys to perform at your birthday party is already a win. Getting to sing “I Want It That Way” with them? That’s a whole different level of birthday bucket-list moment.
