Tom Cruise just added another wild stunt to his resume—this time, with fire. While filming Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, Tom set a Guinness World Record for the most burning parachute jumps by an individual. Yes, burning.
He jumped out of a helicopter 16 times, each time wearing a parachute that had been soaked in fuel and set on fire mid-air. According to Guinness, no one—actor or stunt professional—has even come close to pulling that off.
Guinness’ Editor-in-Chief put it best: “Tom doesn’t just play action heroes, he is an action hero. A large part of his success comes from his obsession with authenticity and pushing the limits of what a leading man can do.”
In behind-the-scenes footage, Cruise explains just how intense (and dangerous) the stunt really was:
“If this is twisted while it’s burning, I’m going to be spinning and burnt. I have to kick out of the twist and then ignite in 10 seconds.”
He adds, “We’re going to be real smart. I’m not saying be risky. We don’t take risks, obviously.” (Sure, Tom.)
