Marvel fans had plenty to get excited about at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend. Around 7,000 fans packed the convention center hall for Marvel’s 40-minute presentation, with some attendees camping out for more than 30 hours to secure a spot.
So, was it worth the wait? Absolutely.
Here are some of the biggest announcements and surprises from the panel:
Ryan Gosling is the new Ghost Rider
Sorry, Nic Cage fans. Ryan Gosling is reportedly stepping into the role of Ghost Rider for a new movie expected to hit theaters in 2028. The film will be directed by Shawn Levy, who recently worked with Gosling on the upcoming Star Wars: Starfighter, which is set to arrive next year.
Black Panther 3 is officially happening
Marvel also announced Black Panther 3, with David Jonsson set to play T’Challa’s grown-up son. T’Challa was famously played by the late Chadwick Boseman in the first two films.
Jonsson, who you may know from HBO’s Industry, is expected to take on a major role in the next chapter of the franchise. Black Panther 3 is also currently expected to arrive in 2028.
Ryan Reynolds crashed the panel in disguise
Ryan Reynolds made a surprise appearance while wearing a never-before-seen gray Deadpool costume. He pretended to be a cosplayer and even jokingly asked if there was room for him in Avengers: Doomsday.
Robert Downey Jr. led thousands of fans in a Doctor Doom moment
Robert Downey Jr. was also on hand to hype up Avengers: Doomsday. Every seat in the audience came with a Doctor Doom mask and cloak, and on Downey’s cue, thousands of fans put them on together.
The panel also featured Chris Evans, Pedro Pascal, Paul Rudd, Anthony Mackie, Simu Liu, James Marsden, David Harbour, Letitia Wright, Lewis Pullman and Kelsey Grammer.
Hayley Atwell also appeared and confirmed that she will be returning as Peggy Carter.
A new look at Doctor Doom
Fans were shown a new trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, which gives more insight into Doctor Doom’s backstory.
The character comes from the same world as the Fantastic Four and has lost everything he loves. He now believes that everyone else is living stolen lives.
Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters December 18th.
Prime Video teases new Carrie series
And while it’s not Marvel-related, horror fans also have something to look forward to. Prime Video released a teaser for Carrie, which premieres October 7th.
The series is director Mike Flanagan’s take on the classic Stephen King novel. Flanagan is best known for creating The Haunting of Hill House, along with several other popular horror projects.
